Governor Godwin Obaseki, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, who scored the highest number of votes in Saturday’s Edo State governorship election and was declared the winner.
The result of the election, held in all Edo’s 18 local governments, was declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday in Benin, the state capital.
“Godwin Obaseki of the PDP, having satisfied the requirement of the law and scored the highest number of votes, was hereby declared the winner,” Johnson Alalibo, the chief returning officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the state, announced on Sunday afternoon.
Mr Obaseki Who polled about 307,955 votes to defeat his main rival, Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who had about 223,619 votes.
He also won in 13 of the 18 local government areas and thus scored more than 25 per cent of votes cast in two-thirds of the local governments in the state to satisfy the second constitutional requirement to be declared governor.

Dr Solomon who is the choosing aspirant from the NRP, for the 2023 presidential election in his recent statement said;
It’s My Heart desire to personally congratulate the governor of Edo State, his excellency Governor Godwin Obaseki for his victory in the just concluded 2020 governorship election.
With a heart of Joy, I also appreciate the people of Edo State for their discipline and Decision to vote for change in their state.
It’s not easy, so much sleepless nights from the Edo youths, so much worthiness from Edo youths.
People came out in mass to Vote for a good government in Edo State and this is the Beginning for a good future for Nigeria, though It’s not easy but they came out in mass to vote for their conscience, they came out in mass to vote for transparency, they came out in mass to vote for Sincerity and good government.
All Thanks to Edo people for standing by their selves. we are not talking about the party, we are talking about the person. God bless all Edonites for standing For the truth, and I assure the youths, if they can join forces together as such in 2023, we will move Nigeria forward.
